Located at the confluence of the Ganga and Jalangi rivers, Sri Mayapur is a sacred town in India with immense historic and religious significance. There is a thriving international community and with the ever increasing influx of pilgrims it is envisioned that Mayapur will be considered a pre-eminent world center of the ‘Vaishnava’ philosophy. One important aspect of the philosophy is demonstrated in a abiding awareness of place in the natural order The proposed township with its central temple is being initiated by ISKCON - The International Society for Krishna Consciousness. The plan has been evolved to reflect a development of 600 acres. Conceptually the plan can be perceived a combination of a 8x8 Mandala with the temple as its core. Spatial structure of the town is perceived as a series of layers - the street system, open space system, water body system and landmark system.
