Anytime I take up a massive cleanup and re-organization project, I have the face the dread of dealing with the sentimental shoebox.  The motley collection eventually ends up in the same cardboard box and shamelessly gets stashed for posterity.

The inclusion of academic studio work in my professional portfolio well after 15 years  probably owes itself to the stash-worthy-shoebox thoery.  Completed during my fourth year design studio, upon returning from internship at the office of architect/educator Balakrishna Doshi, the project owes itself to the the abundance of intellectual stimulation within and beyond the wall of Sangath and Center for Environmental Planning Technology (CEPT) Ahmedabad. It was also my first intensive design study with modular housing prototypes with the assistance of a heavy duty graphic simulation software in the age of cursor driven AutoCAD 2.0. While all this can now be completed at a fraction of its modeling time with  a free version of SketchUp, I still draw upon some of the fundamental principles of residential masterplanning and building typologies reflective in this project and inspired my internship at Doshi's studio.
