The Docks Area is a key riverfront site near Sacramento's Downtown. The Sacramento Riverfront Master Plan completed in July of 2003 identified the Docks Area as a critical opportunity for redevelopment. The nature of redevelopment recommended by the Master Plan was a balance of public and mixed use development with a residential emphasis, combining to create an active new riverfront district. The plan calls for the creation of a new riverfront neighborhoods by creating parks and open space and by providing access to the water's edge with the riverfront promenade. The purpose of the process was to study, in greater detail, the nature and character of public space, the density and mix of new development uses and the transportation and infrastructure networks that could support the proposed level of development.
